MediaWiki is an awesome platform that is both sophisticated, robust, and well-tested. Even Wikipedia is built on their platform! But, it’s not yet simple for the average user and to maintain its platform status, it needs to have much more quick integration with 3rd parties. The MediaWiki team could learn from reviewing usability and functionality from Enterprise wikis like:
and incorporate easier to use basic and advanced functionality. For example, integrating rich media content is far behind other enterprise wikis. Luckily, so many people are on this open source platform, great improvements are likely to come. I just hope dumbing down the basic and advanced functionality is prioritized.
